Great Canadian Gaming Corporation has confirmed that the reopening of the casino at the group’s newest property, Pickering Casino Resort, is to take place today at 10am local time.

Once COVID-19 health and safety restrictions are removed, the property will feature approximately 2,400 slot machines, just under 100 live table games, approximately 140 live dealer stadium gaming terminals, and ten dining options. 

During the first phase of the property’s opening, Pickering Casino Resort will feature a gaming floor and food and beverage amenities with reduced occupancy levels to align with physical distancing requirements.

“The opening of the casino at Pickering Casino Resort is yet another step towards our company’s recovery from the impact of COVID-19 and means another 600 jobs created in the Durham Region in this first phase of the property’s opening,” stated Terrance Doyle, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation interim chief executive officer

“This will be Great Canadian’s 25th property currently operating in Canada and the first casino resort opened in Ontario in 16 years, and I would like to thank all the hard work invested by our team, our contractors and other important stakeholders who have helped us achieve this incredible milestone.”

Earlier this month, Great Canadian Gaming detailed the impending reopening of 12 Ontario-based properties, and the region’s government confirmed that it would move into step three of its ‘Roadmap to Reopen’ on Friday, July 16, 2021.

As a result, the gaming firm wass undertaking the required steps to reopen the following venues on the aforementioned date: Casino Woodbine, Great Blue Heron Casino, Casino Ajax, Elements Casino Mohawk, Elements Casino Flamboro, Elements Casino Brantford, Elements Casino Grand River, Shorelines Casino Belleville, Shorelines Casino Peterborough, Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, and Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs.

Furthermore, the firm also confirmed its inention to open the casino at the Pickering Casino Resort in the near future, with the remainder of the facility opening at a later date in 2022.
