The Netherlands gambling regulatory authority, Kansspelautoriteit, and the UK Gambling Commission have signed a ‘cooperation agreement’ to ‘better support their respective supervisory tasks’.
Informing Dutch stakeholders, KSA chairman, René Jansen, emphasised that the organisations share common goals in combating gambling addiction, safeguarding players and countering international criminal activities.
As part of the agreement, the regulators will work together and share general information whilst also exchanging regulatory best practices on enforcement policies and licensing.
Upon signing the agreement, Jansen commented: “Such a memorandum of understanding forms a good basis for sharing knowledge, collaboration and a smooth exchange of information.
“A clear signal is also given to providers of games of chance that cooperation is taking place at an international level. Online games of chance move across borders. That is why it is important for supervisors to work together.”
Ahead of the scheduled launch of the Netherlands regulated KOA online gambling regime on October 1, the KSA continues to expand its cooperative agreements with counterpart European regulatory agencies.
New collaborative partners secured throughout 2020 include France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux, the Belgium Gambling Commission, Sweden’s Gambling Inspectorate Spelinspektionen and the Malta Gaming Authority.
Though gambling legislation remains in the domain of individual European governments, the European Union has advised regulatory agencies to work together in harmonising standards and business practices between member states.
