Reading Football Club has signed-up to support Safer Gambling Week 2020, a part of which will see the side change its first team shirt logo for their next game.

For Wednesday’s visit to The Den to take on Millwall, The Royals’ jerseys will see Casumo change the logo to showcase CasumoCares, the Malta-based online casino operator’s site dedicated to safe and responsible gambling.

Casumo secured an agreement to become Reading’s new front of shirt sponsor at the start of last season, with the partnership set to run until the summer of 2021.

Safer Gambling Week, which began in 2017 to unite all sectors of the gambling industry, takes place this year from November 19-25 and will see over 100,000 staff at more than 9,000 gambling venues and online sites participate. This also marks the third consecutive year that clubs from the Premier League and English Football League are participating.

A Casumo spokesperson said: “Casumo views social responsibility and responsible gambling as the core of our business and strives to ensure that our players are prevented from at-risk and problem gambling.

“We promote a safe and fun environment and ensure that gambling is seen just as entertainment. We proudly offer and recommend our PlayOkay limit to all our players.

“PlayOkay is a useful tool that allows you to control exactly how much money and time you choose to affordably spend gambling.”

The objective of the SGW campaign is to trigger a national conversation about safer gambling, highlighting the tools, advice and help available to customers, and the initiatives being taken by operators and supporters to promote social responsibility throughout the year.

It is led by trade associations the Betting and Gaming Council, The Bingo Association and the British Amusement Catering Trade Association, who are joined again this year by the Association of Irish Bookmakers.

A Safer Gambling Week spokesperson added, “We are delighted that Reading will be supporting Safer Gambling Week.

“We want to take the message about safer gambling even further this year, and are hoping that this will be our biggest campaign yet.

“The continued engagement and support of football clubs is enormously helpful in highlighting the week and triggering conversations about what it means to gamble safely throughout the year.”
