KPMG is to deliver two sessions about strategy and leadership during these troubled times for betting and gaming businesses, as part of its involvement in the groundbreaking SBC Digital Summit.

The central theme of the largest ever online conference and exhibition for the industry is how operators and companies in the supply chain can manage the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and bounce back stronger than ever once it is over.

In addition to a host of C-level speakers from operators sharing their experiences of this turbulent period, the agenda will see experts from KPMG offer some valuable insights on how to cope with some of the unexpected problems businesses now face.

The first session is ‘Strategic Navigation in Extraordinary Times’ at 1pm (UK) on Wednesday 29 April, during the event’s Lottery Day. It will see Vanessa Borg (director of strategy – KPMG Malta) present the Strategy Nerve Centre, identifying key initiatives prioritised to address the evolving landscape and how they could impact an organisation’s business model

The second, at 1pm (UK) on Friday 1 May during the Summit’s Digital Marketing Day, is ‘Leading Remotely’, which will look at the new challenges faced by management teams forced to adopt remote working. Matthew Scerri (associate director of digital solutions – KPMG Malta) and Claudine Borg Azzopardi (associate director, people and change advisory services – KPMG Malta) will provide insights developed through discussions with key stakeholders and by applying industry best practices.

The professional services firm will also offer high-level input to the Betting on Sports America track on Thursday 30 April, when Tom DiEnno (managing director, KPMG Philadelphia) joins the ‘M&A and Investing in Sports Betting Companies’ panel. Starting at 10.45am (US ET) / 3.45pm (UK), the session will examine how the COVID-19 crisis has impacted investment activity, risk appetite, and the cost of capital within the industry.

KPMG’s involvement in the SBC Digital Summit is part of its well-established relationship with SBC, which will also see the two businesses work together again once physical events are able to resume.

Russell Mifsud, director – gaming lead for KPMG Malta, said: “The SBC Digital Summit is a timely response to a chapter of great uncertainty for the Remote Gaming Industry, and of course, our society. With the mass cancellation or postponement of face-to-face industry gatherings and conferences, it is important that we continue to communicate and share perspectives digitally.

“As part of the SBC Digital Summit, KPMG specialists will deliver a number of insightful and business-critical sessions focused on the importance of leadership, technology, strategy and M&A in this challenging environment. SBC is an important event and media partner of KPMG Malta, and we look forward to supporting Rasmus and his team with this excellent initiative.”

Rasmus Sojmark, CEO and founder of SBC, added: “The SBC Digital Summit has been conceived as a response to the challenging business conditions in which we find ourselves but it is also an opportunity to reconnect people and businesses together like never before.

“In KPMG, we have a partner at the heart of the business community in the US, UK, Malta and around the world. Russell and his team are the perfect partners to offer our delegates insight and opportunity as we move forward together in uncertain times.”

The SBC Digital Summit runs from 27 April to 1 May 2020 and features seven conference tracks focused on Leadership in Betting, Leadership in Gaming, the Latin American market, Lotteries, Payments, the US market, and Digital Marketing.

An estimated 10,000 delegates logging in from around the world can also take in a virtual exhibition featuring the latest offerings from the betting and gaming industry’s most innovative suppliers, and make valuable new contacts in the virtual networking lounges.
