Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment has embarked on the latest strand of its expansion strategy, after spreading its operations across the border to Canada from its United States home.

The tribal casino operator was chosen by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation as the service provider for the Niagara Gaming Bundle in September last year, following a competitive procurement process that also included Caesars Entertainment and Hard Rock International.

As a result, the Connecticut headquartered organisation has assumed day-to-day operation of Fallsview Casino Resort, Casino Niagara, and the future 5,000-seat Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre, located adjacent to Fallsview Casino Resort.

Speaking to Casino.org Mario Kontomerkos, president and CEO of MGE, stressed that this marks “the next stage of our international expansion” in addition to promising to invest “several hundred million,” before stating a belief that the marketing expertise of the company could help drive the destinations forward further still.

A statement on the Fallsview website proclaimed: “Exciting News! We are thrilled to welcome Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment as our new service provider.

“Our players advantage club program has transferred to Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, allowing you to continue enjoying the same rewards, great customer service and benefits of being a players advantage club member.

“We are excited about what the future has in store and we are pleased to be a part of the Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment family of casinos.”

Fallsview was built on a cliff overlooking Horseshoe Falls 15 years ago at a cost of $1bn, and remains the largest single investment ever made by the Government of Ontario in the Niagara region.

The property encapsulates 3,000 slot machines and 100 gaming tables, as well as a 374-room luxury hotel, full service spa and fitness centre, shops and restaurants, a 1,500 seat Theatre (an intimate 1500-seat state-of-the-art venue) and over 30,000 square feet of meeting and convention space.

Casino Niagara on the other hand, which first opened its doors in late 2006, contains 1,300 slot machines, 40 gaming tables and a poker Room among its gaming options.
