Gamstop, the UK online gambling industry self-exclusion scheme, which launched in April this year, has seen 38,000 registrations in its first six months of operation.

Gamstop enables an individual to exclude themselves from UK gambling websites with one single registration. It is free of charge for the user and provides the option to exclude for periods of six months, one year or five years.

The site also directs registrants to a range of additional help, support and advice including links to GamCare and the National Debtline.

Participating companies include many of the UK’s largest online gambling operators, such as BetVictor, Paddy Power, William Hill, Mr Green, Mansion, Ladbrokes and Coral.

One customer testimonial received by Gamstop read: “This is the first month in 15 years I’ve had money left at the end of the month! Thank you it feels like my life has changed! …I keep looking to go on sites but every one I’m blocked on! A long way to go but it’s making a serious positive impact on my life.”

Fiona Palmer, CEO of Gamstop, said: “We are very pleased with the response to [the scheme] so far as the initial uptake proves there is clearly a need for it.

“We will shortly be embarking on our first phase of evaluation which will help shape future
improvements and enhancements to the service going forward.”
